Sheffield Millennium Galleries

Transforming the retail environment for Millennium Galleries, an outstanding venue for the visual arts, craft and design in the heart of Sheffield, was the challenge. Sited on the concourse of an internal avenue, the existing shop was not performing well. The 3D team identified the solutions. Maintaining the look and feel of the gallery space, feature screens were positioned to link the Winter Garden with the internal avenue, creating a natural path to effectively draw people into the shop.

Using the warmth of cherry wood and vibrant colour, the reception and retail space became warm and welcoming provoking positive reaction from visitors to the Galleries. Best use was made of existing materials with the original gondolas being redressed and reutilised in the new environment.

Philip Sowter, Operations Manager, Sheffield Galleries and Museums Trust, reported that retail sales have increased by 82% and spend per head by 80% since the shop was redesigned.
